Admit it. If you’re reading this blog, there have been days where you felt like you needed to blow one down before going to work. Hell, you might even be one of those people that feels like blowing one down is the only way to get through work. Whether you occasionally toke or it’s part of your pre-work ritual, it’s still federally illegal. Plus, a lot of employers frown upon having a bunch of stoned employees. Here are some of the ways you can be high at work and not look it:

Smoke early and don’t smoke in your work clothes

This one seems pretty obvious. Hot boxing in the car during your morning commute is not the best idea at all… period. If you’re smoking up before work, make sure you do it early. By the time you get into that morning commute, it’s one of the best in your life. Also, despite what your other pot smoking friends tell you, the smell of weed smoke stays in your clothes after you medicate. People that don’t smoke tend to be able to smell it a mile away. If you’re able to smoke before you shower for the day, that’s probably your best bet to minimize detection. I’ve even hotboxed my shower in the past. Now that’s the best.

Don’t be late for work and actually do your job

Don’t be late for work. That should be self-explanatory, but I’ve definitely been in a situation where I’ve lost track of time after smoking a couple of bowls. It’s like time just gets away from you. My only suggestion for this is to watch the clock and also maybe set an alarm on your phone just in case. If not being late for work is important, this next point is of double importance. One of the biggest stereotypes for smokers is that they’re lazy. Don’t be that guy/girl. We need to overcome the lazy stoner stereotype one productive stoner at a time. Since most people think that people that smoke pot are just going to stand there and veg out, when you get to work, actually do your job! Being high and doing your job can make the day go by so much faster.

Be social

One of the biggest reasons people get caught being high at work is because they’re afraid of getting caught being high at work. Have a coworker that you don’t like? Use the fact that you’re feeling a little lifted to try and get to know them a little better (or at least make taking to them more bearable). Don’t seclude yourself. Being out and being social will actually make people suspect you less than being that weirdo over in the corner alone. Also, one of the most beneficial features of cannabis is that it can lower social anxiety in many people. Use this lessened anxiety to your advantage and form meaningful work relationships. They could help you in the long run.

I also feel like I have to say: if your job is dangerous and life threatening (i.e. construction, medical, and emergency services, etc.), you probably shouldn’t be smoking at work… at all… whatsoever. Just save your toking until the end of the day to help you relax. Then, you can do whatever you want!
